Going on an adventure around the world has probably been on everyone’s mind at one point, but life is not that flexible in most cases. Hence, we choose the next best thing and read someone else’s exploits in a book, or even participate in them a little bit with the help of video games. Whether it’s a trip into another dimension or just a murder waiting to be solved, every adventure has a bit of mystery to it, in order to increase its appeal.
Search for a powerful spell to open a portal
Pahelika: Revelations is a point-and-click adventure game with an emphasis on puzzle solving and the usual mini-games that require a lot of tinkering before you are able to solve them. However, the title is oriented toward the casual portion of the audience, so any hardcore fans of the genre might as well avoid it, because there’s nothing too deep or challenging about it.
Just like all adventure titles, a story is required for the events unfolding on the screen to make sense, and Pahelika: Revelations has one as well. As it happens, the main character’s name is Sudesh Budkoti and he decides to explore an academy for dark wizards, in order to search for a particular spell. The use of this spell is to open the way into a dimensional storage, where he hopes to find a few answers to his questions.
Puzzles ranging from very simple to frustrating
Naturally, a critical component of the game are the puzzles themselves, because they basically sum up the entire gameplay. In this case, most of them are quite simple and straightforward to figure out, but there are some that require you to look for small objects to click on, which is neither fun, nor does it require intelligence at all. Hence, unless you are really patient and you do not mind solving the riddles in vain, there are way better options out there in this regard.
Thankfully, the visual aspect is actually quite decent, although the level design is not always very intriguing. You can immerse yourself in the mystery along the way, which is certainly helpful, considering the lack of any other intriguing elements. However, there are also plenty of bugs to ruin the experience as well, including buttons not responding and a few other inconveniences that do a good job of annoying you.
Simple gameplay for those who are looking for a light challenge
Pixel hunting situations aside, Pahelika: Revelations is almost decent in its category, considering the target audience and the level of dedication from the developers. But, unless you really have no one else to guide you better, there are many other worthy games you can try out.
