--Software is a collection of instructions, data, or computer programs used to run machines and carry out certain activities. It is the antithesis of hardware which refers to a computer external components. A device running programs, scripts, and applications are collectively referred to as "software" in this context.

LanguageTool is an open source proof reading software. It finds many errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect like mixing up there or their and it detects some grammar problems. LanguageTool finds errors by looking for text patterns defined in an XML file. Alternatively, error detection rules can be written in Java. This application can detect errors as long as rules are defined within their language-specific configuration files.
